The Business Dictionary defines ‘branding’ as: entire process involved in creating a unique name and image for a product or service in the consumers mind. Branding aims to establish a significant and differentiated presence in the market place that attracts and retains customers.
No product is unique or has a monopoly in our world anymore, everyone has competition. So what can you really do that will stand out in the ‘consumers mind’ and have them call your company, when they realize the need your services.
- Learn everything you can about your competition. From management changes that may cause Focus on uncovering the weaknesses as well as the strengths your competitors have. No company is perfect, not even yours.
- Assess your own company and its weaknesses and strengths. No company is perfect, and to grow your company you need to attract customers away from your competition.
- Design your marketing strategies to focus on the problems that your company solves not the features and benefits your product or service will deliver. Let your competition discuss their features and benefits. Stand out from the competition by doing something different so that your company has created a unique image that will be remembered in the consumers mind.
- Brand your company as a partner with your clients to resolve the problems the company has, that is causing them to be less efficient or lose revenue. Companies today are trying to do more with less people and profitability is a key component to all decisions. No one is spending money on luxuries, even in business. If you can’t brand your product to show how you can help a prospective client overcome a problem they have that is negatively affecting their efficiency or causing them to lose revenue, it will be difficult to close the sale in the end.
